#1157 answer the bell

In the days before telephones and electricity, a giant bell was placed in common areas for people to ring in case of a fire.  If you were in need, you rang the bell and neighbors would come to your aid with buckets of water.  Apparently this worked fine for the people near the bell, but not so well for those who had to travel a few blocks when seconds mattered.

Even though we could now instantaneously summon the entire city through technology, I wonder how many would heed the call.  We are more connected in theory, and less connected in relationships.

Listen for the metaphorical bell to be rung in your community.  Who is in need of a bucket of your kindness or service?  Can you be the one to respond even though the bell is silent?
