Footgolf is essentially playing the game of golf with a soccer ball (known as a football in other places, thus the foot+golf). It is played on a golf course and follows most of the rules of golf: fewest shots win, shoot from the tee box, avoid water and trees. Often footgolf is played in teams of four.
If you are looking for a fun team-building activity for your group, see if your local golf course has designated times/days when the footgolf course is in play. It will likely be something new, and it is the kind of activity that everyone can do, even if they don't excel at it.
You can also take a lesson from footgolf for your organization. Golf courses saw the decline in revenue due to the recession and the rise in the interest in soccer. Someone got creative and put the two concepts together to bring this sport to the U.S. How can you follow this thought process to put together two disparate ideas to create something new?
Football + golf = footgolf. Pets + reading = literacy dogs in schools. Junk yards + art camps + sustainability = recycled art sculptures for parks. Gaming craze + trend toward mobile facilities = party in a truck (www.gametruckparty.com) The list is endless.
This weekend, challenge yourself to put a new A + B together. Maybe it's as simple as a mango on your burger or a round of footgolf. But somehow celebrate your independence by thinking differently!
